Richard Overton

Extraordinary Singer/Songwriter and Producer Born and raised on the South side of Chicago, his mother Ora Overton and his father Richard Overton were both musically incline, Ora his mother was the first to inspire Daveon to use his singing voice at the age of five, his mother also performed with band orchestras as a jazz singer, while his father played various musical instruments and also taught jazz music. By the time Daveon was seven he began playing the saxophone and piano. At the age of 13 Daveon suffered the loss of his mother, at the age of 17 his father give him his first guitar lessons, Daveon began playing the acoustic guitar and writing songs composed by himself. The R&B, Hip Hop and soulful singer Daveon, landed his first recording contract with an independent record company known as BBC America. He joined the virtuoso group known as the Smoke City Band Launching their first hit single (Dreams) the next single I really want you and In a World of Fantasy would follow on the epic Record label. Appearing on radio stations across the world, performing live at Amphitheater’s In Chicago as well as in various parts of the United States. Due to bad management Daveon left the Smoke City Band, than he join Barry Gordy of Motown records and the Jobete Publishing Company, as a singer/ songwriter in 1993. Daveon relocate to Los Angeles, CA. to move closer to the Jobete Company to pursue his career as a Singer/Songwriter. Barry Gordy 4th recognized Daveon’s gift as a Singer and songwriter, and immediately signed him to his publishing Co. Jobete music publishing. Motown and Epic records recording artist Daveon Overton. I Released my first hit single in 1987 Dreams, I really want you, and in a world of fantasy with the group SMOKE CITY, who Originated out of Chicago IL, where I released my first solo LP under DAVEON. Titled (it’s so good). I signed another recording contract with Barry Gordy in 1993 with the group Mind Heart and Soul. Titled (Awalys) I also signed my first song writer’s contract in 1993 with the Jobete Publishing Co. In California. I performed live in concerts with Smoke City at the aerie crown Theater in Chicago IL. I recently did a live performance opening up for Bootsy Collins, Verdine white from earth wind and fire. performing with the Bootsy girls. AKA. Guitart Sallye and Tamah.
