Willi Maertens

German librettist, conductor and music professor, born November 3, 1915 in Magdeburg, German Empire, died June 19, 2012. Maertens worked most of his life in the former GDR and received his PhD in 1975 at the University of Magdeburg with a dissertation about the "Kapitänsmusik" of Georg Philipp Telemann.
