Andrea Tippel

Andrea Tippel, born 1945 in Hirsau/Black Forest, grew up as the middle of three sisters in Bremen. Her parents are the architects Maria Alexandra Mahlberg and Klaus Tippel. In 1969 she was a state-certified actress (Max-Reinhardt-Seminar in Vienna and Berlin), then studying philosophy and psychology at the universities in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich. Since 1971 in Berlin: drawings, objects, composites, texts and books, also a few oil paintings. First solo exhibition with Tomas Schmit in 1974, artist books since 1980, editions for various galleries since 1987. Close friendships with Suzanne Baumann, Henriette van Egten, Ludwig Gosewitz, Dorothy Iannone, Dieter Roth, Jan Voss and Emmett Williams. 1997 Professor at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Hamburg, 2000 founding member of the Dieter Roth Academy (DRA). Passed away 2012 in Berlin.
