Theodore Thomas (11 October 1835, Esens, East Friesland, Lower Saxony — 4 January 1905, Chicago, Illinois) was a German-American violinist, orchestrator, and distinguished conductor, best known as the principal conductor of The New York Philharmonic Orchestra (1877 to 1891) and the first musical director of The Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1891 to 1905).
