American harmonica ensemble — originally a trio, then a quartet, then two groups — that played big band arrangements. Cappy Barra was popular from 1935 to 1945. The group was assembled by promoter Maurice Duke. The act split into two groups, with the first working primarily in the Chicago area and the second, based in New York. Members included: First group: Cappy LaFell, Nat Bergman, Sam Scheckter, Sam Sperling, and George Fields. Second group: Phil King, George Fields, Charley Leighton, Alan Greene, Pro Robbins (né Irving Rubenstein), Alan Greene, and Pete Petersen.
