{1962 - 2009). Singer, songwriter from Washington State. She was considered a pioneer in the Charanga R&B genre of music. She was married to Johnny Almendra and then later Leon Pendarvis. She was also involved in some activism. She died of mesothelioma which is from exposure to asbestos. ----------- Career ----------- Her career included singing the lead song on the 1989 Olé Ola album by Mongo Santamaria. She was also a member of influential group, Los Jóvenes Del Barrio and sang on the Live album which was released in 1998. She co-wrote the song "Do You Want My Love" which was a hit for CoCo Lee in 1999. It made the Top 20 in both Australia and New Zealand. She recorded a rap track with Funk Filharmonik that appeared on the Everybody Get Down album that was released in 2008. Other artists she worked with include comedienne Rosie O'Donnell and the Swedish pop girl group Play. Her husband Leon Pendarvis took time out from his musical career to care for her when her health deteriorated. She died in January 2009.
