Richard Targett and the Monos

"Richard Targett and the Monos was a side project by some Trudy members. There was me, Richard Targett, and Victor Champion from the then Trudy line-up, plus Nick Shadow who had played for The Trudy previously and appeared on our ‘Lunar Love Affair’ single the same year. Also, there was Minerva Allen, who was in ‘Michelle and the Asteroids’, which was a group of backing dancers at our gigs. Finally there was Damien Saxxe-Coburg, who had previously been in The Trudy, but never appeared on any of our records. We never did any gigs, but we did 3 or 4 rehearsals and wrote one song, which was One of Our Satellites is missing. When it came to recording the cassette, World Without Love was a cover version, as you probably know. Land of the Giants has an unusual history in that it was originally an early Trudy song called Volcano Of the Ferrets, but it was written after we released our album Volcano Fo Le Ferret, so it’s not on that. Before Richard Targett and the Monos, Victor Champion and Nick Shadow had been in a synth duo called Jelly Diamonds and they had previously performed Land of the Giants, and, as I had previously been involved in the writing of that song (when it was Volcano of the Ferrets) we chose it for our EP." -Peter Tagg [Richard Targett]
