Aliéksey Vianna

Brazilian guitarist, based in Basel, Switzerland. He first took up the guitar at the age of eight. At age twelve, he began formal classical guitar studies. At 18, he left Brazil on a scholarship to study with Professor Thomas Patterson at the University of Arizona, USA, where he stayed for four years. While a student, he performed in master classes of Sergio and Odair Assad, Manuel Barrueco, Ivan Rijos, Paul Galbraith, Abel Carlevaro, Oscar Ghiglia, Roberto Aussel, Roland Dyens, Nigel North, Paul O’dette, Hopkinson Smith and Ralph Towner. Vianna holds a bachelor’s degree from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music (class of David Tanenbaum) and two master’s degrees from the Musik Akademie der Stadt Basel (classical guitar class of Pablo Marquez and Jazz guitar class of Wolfgang Muthspiel). He is currently studying for his PhD in artistic research at the docARTES program of the Orpheus Institute in Ghent (Belgium).
