A Melbourne-based saxophonist with a diverse musical practice rooted in jazz. In the past few years, he has established himself as one of the most exciting young musicians in Melbourne and an integral part of the local jazz and creative music scene winning the PBS Young Elder of Jazz Award in 2019 for Displacement, which premiered to a sold-out crowd at Melbourne International Jazz Festival. Josh is currently active as a composer-bandleader for his own groups Josh Kelly Trio, JK Group, and Displacement; while working as a collaborator in Melbourne soul-jazz collective 30/70. He was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, and spent 10 years immersed in the music scene of Aotearoa (New Zealand). He studied Jazz and Improvisation at Monash University and graduated with First Class Honours from Melbourne University faculty of the VCA in 2015. Josh released his first album as a bandleader, 'The Young Ones' as JK Group in April 2020.
