Born in St. Louis. In 1966, he formed a group called The Soul Brothers with Blake Travis. The pair also played together in the seventies. In 1978, Bidewell played on singer- songwriter Jack Hardy's album The Nameless One. In the late 1970s, he was a member of the backing group of Welsh musician John Cale. Their collaboration resulted in a concert album called Sabotage/Live. He also played on the studio version of the song "Mercenaries (Ready for War)" released in 1980 as a single. He later pursued a solo career; in 2009 he released the album Coconut Haystacks. Unconscious Arithmetic followed three years later. He also collaborated with the Quichenight group. He played on her albumQuichebeat 2015 (sung, played guitar and harmonica on the song "Rock-n-Roll").
