American Tin Pan Alley lyricist and composer. Born August 21, 1907, in New York City. Died July 2, 2007, in Westport, Connecticut (age of 99). Best known for writing the lyrics to the song "Unchained Melody" (music by Alex North), one of the most recorded songs of the 20th century. He charted fifty times as a songwriter between 1940 and 2010, twenty-seven of those times with "Unchained Melody". He also had another #1 song with "My Sister and I" (co-written with Joan Whitney & Alex Kramer) by Jimmy Dorsey And His Orchestra in 1941. In addition, he had a #2 song with "It All Comes Back to Me Now" by Gene Krupa And His Orchestra, also in 1941. He was inducted to the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1984.
