American musician, songwriter, and producer. Born on February 25, 1953, in New York City - passed away on May 19, 2018. He began his career as a guitarist in the 1970s, first in NYC and then in Philadelphia; playing with several well-known musicians, including Miles Davis, Carlos Santana and Roberta Flack. He was a talented songwriter and producer. He worked with Flack on several of her albums, including the Grammy-winning "Killing Me Softly", which Lucas co-wrote. He also co-wrote and produced hits for other artists such as "Never Knew Love Like This Before" by Stephanie Mills and "Borderline" by Madonna. In 1978 he formed Mtume together with James Mtume and In the 1980s Lucas formed the group Sunfire (2), which released several albums. He also continued to work as a producer and songwriter, collaborating with artists like The Four Tops, Randy Crawford, and Rebbie Jackson. Lucas received numerous awards and nominations throughout his career, including four Grammy Awards. He was also recognized for his contributions to the music industry, receiving the SESAC Legacy Award in 2018.
