Mariko Horie entered Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music after having attended the High School of Music attached to Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music. While enrolled in the school, she went to France as an exchange student on a scholarship from the French government, and graduated from the chamber music course and piano department of Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Then she went on to complete the third course (graduate school) at the same musical institution. She has studied under such masters as Hiroshi Miura, Yasuko Tani, Akiko lguchi, Kazuko Yasukawa, Aldo Ciccolini, Jean Hubeau, and Henriette Puig-Roget. Awards to her credit include first place in the chamber music duo category of the Prague International Competition, third place at the Geneva International Music Competition (there was no first prize). and the Paul Streit Award. She has performed recitals and made appearances at music festivals throughout France and the rest of Europe and all of Asia as well as co-performed with Paris Chamber Music Orchestra, Yomiuri Nippon Symphony Orchestra, NHK Symphony Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra. Tokyo Symphony Orchestra. Orchestra Ensemble Kanazawa, and others. From 1993 to 1991, she was in charge of production of the eight-part series "The complete works of Fauré, Piano and Chamber Music Concert", which drew large audiences. Also in 1993, the Fauré 150th Birthday Commemoration Concert in Paris was a huge success. The following year, she performed as a soloist at the Paris performance of the 1996 Tokyo Symphony Orchestra's European tour. And starting front 1997, she has given regular chamber music concerts in Japan and France under the title of "Mariko Horie and Her Parisian Friends.' At present, her efforts are concentrated on first of all providing guidance to the next generation at the art department or Nihon University. Nihon University Graduate School of Art, and Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music. another endeavor is the publishing of tutorial book and DVD - Mariko Horic\e - Art of Piano Pedalling" (Yamaha Music Media), and last but not least, she is vigorously pursuing educational facets such as lecturing and giving public lessons and so forth all around Japan.
