Samuel (Sam) Bowen is a singer-songwriter and guitarist based in the Boston/Worcester region of Massachusetts. His blend of blues, folk, gospel, and pop/rock draws comparisons to Bruce Cockburn, Randy Stonehill, and Neil Young. He rose to attention in the 1980s with his Americana folk-rock group, The Lifters (with Margaret Kelly and members of the band ETA). Continuing to release solo material into the 00s, Bowen has worked with Johnny J Blair, Shawn Colvin, Mitch McVicker, Andy Pratt ("Avenging Annie"), Michael Sweet, Dave Mallet, Tom Conlon, Scarlet Fade, and other notables. Bowen's album UNDER THE SURFACE led to his first tour of Ireland in 2003. In 2008, his album SPEAK TO ME was nominated for best album of the year and male vocalist of the year by Limelight Magazine, and was included in Limelight Magazine's 2016 list of ten best independent albums over ten years. Bowen was also a judge for the Guitar Center Annual Blues Challenge Contest and a judge on radio station "idol" competitions. He also reviewed new artists music for national booking agents and was a radio DJ for a 5000 watt station in Charlotte, North Carolina. Known for his unique finger style guitar and his textual blues rock style on electric guitar, and crisp, clear emotion-packed vocals, he currently performs around New England, solo and with his band Blue Cat Groove. BCG (Blue Cat Groove) came in Runner Up at the 2015 and 2016 Limelight Magazine music awards for "best album" and "best live band". BCG opened for the Martin Barre Band of Jethro Tull fame in 2016. BCG have released three albums with their latest "Uncondional" receiving critical acclaim.
