Ernest Hutcheson

Australian concert pianist, composer & writer (b. Melbourne 20 July 1871 - d. New York 9 Feb., 1951) Studied piano in Australia with Max Vogrich and toured the country as a prodigy before studying in Leipzig under K. Reinecke until 1890. Subsequently pursued further practice and study in Europe until 1900. New York debut in 1915, and thereafter in between concert tours he undertook teaching in various American schools. Dean of Julliard School of Music 1924-1937 then appointed its President. Composed several symphonic works and numerous piano pieces. Wrote a number of books including "Elementys of Piano Technique" (1907) and "The Literature of the Piano" (1948).
