Started playing professionally in 1973 with his 1st group, The Marlay Brother's Band as lead vocalist/rhythm guitar and songwriter with the stage name “Bob Montanna” with band members, Matthew B Marlay/bass, Wyatt Wade Marlay/drummer/vocalist/songwriter, and David Gouty/lead guitar/vocalist/songwriter. Playing in Springfield, MO in local clubs, parties and special events. Later, Rusty Shaffer joined the band replacing David Gouty as lead guitar/lead and background vocals. Recording their first 45rpm with the Marlay Brothers Band “Mean Little T-Bird” written and produced by Robert (Bob) Varner on side one and an instrumental 'Daylight” on side two featuring David Gouty on lead guitar, written and produce by David Gouty.
