Danish bassist, sound technician, jazz producer, jazz writer, jazz reviewer, tour manager and author, born 1951. Musical director of Jazzhus Montmartre 1976-1989 and 1993-94. After an education as a goldsmith (1972) and jewelry designer (1975), Niels Christensen was stationed as a military refusal at the Danish Jazz Center in 1976 (see Danske Jazzcenter) and the same year he was hired as musical director at Jazzhus Montmartre. In 1989 Christensen started a new independent working life which included: [u]Tour sound technician[/u] for e.g. John Scofield, Michel Camilo, Lyle Mays, Joyce, Abdullah Ibrahim, Radioens Big Band, Frontline, Blast (17), Istanbul Express, New Jungle Orchestra, Northern Voices. [u]Producer[/u] on releases with e.g. Tania Maria, NHØP, Jacob Elvstrøm, Ben Besiakov, Erling Kroner New Music Orchestra, Thomas Fryland, GinmanBlachmanDahl. [u]Various work[/u] for festivals and organizations like Copenhagen JazzHouse, Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Det Kgl. Bibliotek, Danish Music Awards/Jazz, Dansk Musik Informations Center, Den Rytmiske Højskole, Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium Most recently Christensen has been music producer at Dunkers Kulturhus, Helsingborg, Sweden (2006-2013) and jazz curator at Kulturværftet and Toldkammeret, Helsingør since 2015. He is the author of the books "Montmartre i Nørregade – Mig og Monten" (2010), "Rugsted Kreutzfeldt – Kom tilfældigvis forbi" (2016), "Ama’r Nr. 1", (2017) and "Er du klar over hvem jeg var?" (2019). From 1971 to 1978 Niels Christensen was bassist in the latin/rock band Nana Banana, and from 1978 (and still) a member of the avantgarde-jazz-rock-punk-etc. band "Børneværnet" (Double CD released in 2004).
