UK singer, songwriter, guitarist, engineer and producer born March 18, 1941 in Torphins, Kincardineshire, Scotland. Co-founded Hedgehoppers Anonymous with his groundcrew mates at RAF base Wittering. After disbanding in 1967 he focused on his songwriting and engineering career, working as an engineer in the UK, then as an engineer and producer in Canada and the US. In April 1971 he was hired as an engineer at Eastern Sound in Toronto. In the same year he founded his production company John Stewart Enterprises Inc. (a.k.a. John James Stewart Enterprises or J.J. Stewart Enterprises). In December 1972 he was hired as A&R head and in-house producer for short-lived record Canadian company Avenue Of America Recording Limited. After AoA folded his acts were released on a variety of labels such as RCA, A&M Records, MCA Records. For a period In the 70s he was manager of MCA Records (Canada)'s publishing arm Leeds Music (Canada) Limited. In 1977 he was hired as the first General Manager and A&R Director of Sounds Interchange's Change Records Inc. and was the chief in-house producer for their production company Inter-Productions. Shortly after the company was sold in 1980 he departed Canada for Nashville but returned to Canada in 1983 with a focus on managing and producing Country & Western acts, often recording them in Nashville. Has worked at De Lane Lea Studios/Kingsway Studios, Eastern Sound, Phase One Studios, Sounds Interchange.
