Moroccan writer, visual artist and storyteller (b. 8 March 1936, Tangier, Morocco). Mohammed Mrabet (محمد مرابط, full name: Mohammed ben Chaib el Hajam) belongs to the "Ait Ouriaghel" tribe from the Rif region in Morocco's north-east, and became known in the West primarily through translations of Paul Bowles and Mrabet's association with William S. Burroughs and Tennessee Williams. As a visual artist, Mohamed Mrabet has been creating intricate ink drawings resembling Joan Miró's style and works of Jillali Gharbaoui (1930—1971), exhibited in Europe and the United States. He represents a small group of post-colonial Moroccan master painters, highly sought after by European collectors.
