Swedish acoustic blues singer and guitarist, born 15 May 1956 in Södertälje. In his teens, he supported himself as a freelance music journalist at Dagens Nyheter. A couple of years later, he dropped out of writing to support himself as a street singer in Paris, which became his base for the next six years, where he also played at clubs and festivals. He sang through Europe down to North Africa and for a time in the United States. In New York, he lived with his mentor "the father of the white blues" Dave Van Ronk. Back in Sweden, he established himself as a solo artist. He has given concerts, played in pubs, clubs and festivals throughout Scandinavia and also performed in duo constellations with among others Sven Zetterberg, Jim Metcalfe, Kendra Shank, Happy Traum Anders Gutke, Ramblin 'Jack Elliott and rockabilly legend Teddy Paige. In 2004 he started performing together with his new wife Maria Engqvist Bramstedt (violin). She also appeared on "Blues and Joys". His wife died in 2009. Sivert Bramstedt has since appeared mostly solo.
