Leo Ouderits (b.1950) obtained the highest degree for chamber-music and the superior diploma for percussion at the Royal Conservatory of music in Antwerp. From the age of 18 he practises many different styles and performed as drummer with the popular Orchestra “the Rainbows” and as a member of the Belgian Radio and Television Orchestra. He also made intensively several studio recordings and concert-tours as an orchestra member and principle timpanist with the famous trumpet-player Theo Mertens & his wind ensemble and the International acclaimed baroque specialist Jos Van Immerseel & his orchestra Anima- Eterna. He cooperated over years with most significant Belgian artists and ensembles and recorded his debut album with solo-pieces by Louis Cauberghs for drums and vibes. His recordings and performances for the National Radio of Bela Bartok’s “ Sonata for piano & percussion” made his career known. As Belgian leading percussion pedagogue he’s related as Professor of percussion at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp and at the Lemmens institution in Leuven. He also appears as guest-professor at the Academie d’été in Libramont and as regular jury member of significant competitions. He founded the Mol percussion Orchestra and conducted this ensemble over 30 years with performances at most significant festivals and for many special radio broadcastings. In 1974 He produced with his ensemble their first debut LP “A Taste of percussion” with own compositions. As a percussionist and conductor he’s an intensive promoter of the Belgian percussion-music with a repertoire including mainly own compositions, commissioned pieces, dedicated works and creations of most significant Belgian composers. In 1993 he appeared as conductor for the opening concerts of Antwerp 93 “Cultural City of Europe”. He composed many works in different musical styles and strengths with important titles such as “To beat or not to beat”, “Isoraya”, “Percussion Pictures”, “De Alarmklok”, “Drijfzand”, “Poem for Vibes”, “Passing By”, “Introduction for the Queen” etc...
