Winner of awards such as the 2007 Itaú Directions and the XIII Carlos Gomes Award as best chamber ensemble of Brazil in 2009, nominated for the 2012 Latin Grammy, the 2013 Award of Brazilian Music and the 2012 and 2013 Culture of the Government of Rio de Janeiro Award, the Radamés Gnattali Quartet emerged as the world’s first to record the 17 String Quartets, by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos on DVD and Blu-ray. The group’s discography includes the following albums: The Four Carioca Stations, Prelude no. 21 – String Quartet, and Brazil Picture. Radamés Gnattali’s and Ricardo Tacuchian’s full releases are planned for 2014. With their repertoire basically dedicated to Brazilian music, the Quartet has regularly performed at festivals such as the Olinda International Music Show (MIMO), Villa-Lobos Festival, International Festival of Campos do Jordão, Funarte’s Biennial of Contemporary Music, among others, as well as touring Europe, Africa, South America and North America. In the educational field, the Radamés Gnattali Quartet recorded 13 television programs dedicated to the Heitor Villa-Lobos’ quartets and for the sixth consecutive year, has carried out the Brazil of Tuhu project, taking music of that Brazilian composer to children attending public schools in Brazil.
