Crash-N-Burn

Crash-N-Burn was a punk rock band from San Francisco, California, USA. (approx. 1984-1988) CnB was more than just a generic punk band as their music could also draw on free improv, metal, prog rock and funk. The original version of the band was: John Sanders: guitar and vocals Ray Houghton: guitar and vocals Amy Sanders; bass and vocals Jeff Gerard: drums This version of the band included a lot of free improvisation and noisy avant-garde influences in their music, along with plenty of California hardcore punk. Jeff was murdered by the notorious serial killers Charles Ng and Leonard Lake which led to PJ Hakimi joining the group on drums. With PJ on board the band went in more of a thrash metal direction. PJ quit and was replaced by John Lieb on drums and vocals, and soon after Ray quit the band. This new three piece version of the band leaned more in a heavy prog rock direction, often sounding like a punk version of King Crimson. John Lieb eventually quit the band and was replaced by Dean Menta on guitar and Parry Wolfe on drums. This final version of CnB took on more of a punk funk direction with a lot of influence from the emerging hip-hop scene. Crash-N-Burn finally folded somewhere around 1988 with John Sanders, Parry Wolfe and Amy Sanders moving on to start New Power Soul, a seven piece funk band.
