Serenity Defiled is a brutal thrash project from the core members of Fury / The Harrowed. Location - Cairns / Broken Hill /. Wollongong, Australia Bio - It might be easy to think that there’s something in the water that explains the volume of quality metal bands coming out of the outback town of Broken Hill, Australia, but that’s a place defined by its very lack of water, as well as filming locations for grim, dystopian future set movies like Mad Max 2. It’s this hot, brutal landscape that gave birth to the thrash band FURY, who went on to become SERENITY DEFILED. FURY found success over the course of a string of albums, and many tours around Australia. They were signed to Massacre Records in Germany under the name of THE HARROWED before eventually disbanding in the late 2000s. Two of the founding members, Ricky Boon (guitars) and Mick O’Neil (vocals) wanted to reinvent FURY as an even more aggressive outfit, adding layers of death metal to their already devastating take on thrash metal. They recruited drummer Tim Hinton, and tapped Lord Tim (DUNGEON/LORD/BLACKENED ANGEL) to play lead guitar and produce their debut album. “Where Chaos Reigns” was an unrelenting slab of brutal thrash metal, with a raw production and blistering guitar work. Four video clips and two lyric clips were released from this album, which featured stunning cover artwork by renowned artist Eliran Kantor (TESTAMENT/ICED EARTH/THY ART IS MURDER). Mick O’Neil stepped away from the mic after this album, with his spot being filled by Lord Tim. Although mostly known for melodic styles of metal, LT’s vocals often crossed over into extreme metal on LORD albums and, being so familiar with SERENITY DEFILED having worked as either a producer or session musician over the years from even as far back as the very first FURY demos, he was a natural choice for the role. The new album “Dead Earth Syndicate” picks up from the previous album, ramping up the aggression and intensity even further. Clocking in at a mere six minutes longer than SLAYER’s seminal thrash classic “Reign in Blood,” this album is the equivalent of being jumped in a back alleyway by a gang of thugs with spiked bats and rusty blades, leaving you lying in a pool of blood and broken teeth, wondering what the hell just happened. Three video clips have already been released from this album, with several more currently in the works. If you like your metal more polished, more melodic, and more bombasic, then perhaps this album and indeed this band is not for you. But if you can identify with the harsh and brutal landscape of the Australian outback, then maybe you might find what you’re looking for with SERENITY DEFILED and “Dead Earth Syndicate.”
