It's difficult to eulogize this project sufficiently via a single social media post, but here's an attempt. Hideout began in a small apartment above an auto shop in Canandaigua, NY in the early months of 2012. I started writing the first songs for Some Seek Reprieve when my previous project dissolved. The project began with two phone calls, one to Cody Ayers and the other to Travis Handley, and we began writing immediately. Nick Becker joined shortly thereafter and added the last vibrant puzzle piece, as well as a mustache and constant dad jokes. We wrote No Rest and did a couple short tours. Pete Doherty joined on drums when Cody could no longer dedicate his time, and fit as if he was there from the beginning. He added a tightness and professionalism to our shows that pushed us forward in the final years of the band. Nate Steinheimer (Mutant League Records) put his faith in us and released Vacant Lungs on vinyl in the spring of 2016. We were so energized and thankful when this happened, and remain so. Thank you for your patience and support. From the very first show in a house in Brockport NY to multiple out of state tours, our closest supporters were always Spencer Chamberlain and Keighty Sharkey. Both of these people were friends who cheered us on through van breakdowns, writers block, and hardship. From the bottom of our hearts, we owe you so much. You're both as much a part of the soul of this band as the musicians that comprise it. Hideout never really "jammed." We always wrote with sharp intent, structure, and ferocity. We believed good hardcore didn't meander, and that it had flow, purpose, and emotion. The songs are honest. They are intensely personal. We became adults as this project developed, and these songs aided in those growing pains. We've decided to end Hideout gracefully, while we're all still fast and loud. We always believed music should stand on its own, and to this end we played small shows to small audiences from the beginning until the end. On September 15th, at the Bugjar, please join us one last time to celebrate the life of this project and the dedication that we poured into it. With love, Nick Becker, Travis Handley, Robbie Allen, Pete Doherty, and Cody Ayers
