John Zumwalt Stephan is an American recording engineer, president of Springs Theatre, Inc. audio/video production facility in Tampa, Florida, and a voting member of the Grammy Foundation. Stephan works in different genres, particularly specializing in symphonic music, pop, and jazz. In the realms of classical music, he had recorded Isaac Stern, Robert Shaw, André Watts, The Florida Orchestra, The Master Chorale of Tampa Bay, and handled pre-production for Grammy winning Bernstein's West Side Story Suite by Joshua Bell. John Zumwalt Stephan worked with jazz saxophonists Sam Rivers and Bunky Green, trumpeter Doc Severinsen, and a legendary keyboardist/composer Ray Charles. Among his most prominent pop clients is Jennifer Lopez – Stephan worked on her Super Bowl and Saturday Night Live performances at the Springs Theatre. Big Bad Voodoo Daddy recorded a song for Denis Leary's Comedy Central Roast with John, while Bobby McFerrin worked on the Wizard of Oz project, in which McFerrin performed all the characters and sound effects. A few rock musicians also worked at the Springs and had John Zumwalt Stephan contributed to their projects, including Robert Smith from The Cure, who recorded the theme song for an animated TV show called Dragon Hunters, Marty Balin (Jefferson Airplane), Ace Frehley (Kiss), and Robin Zander (Cheap Trick).
