Jyri Kork

Jyri Kork ( November 13, 1927 Tartu - August 22, 2001 Greenbelt , Maryland , USA ) was an Estonian poet and an American aeronautical engineer of Estonian origin. He studied at primary school, and the second from 1942 in - , 1944 Hugo Treffner . He was mobilized into the German army in 1944, was in a training camp in Neuhammer from October 1944 to January 1945 , after which he was on the Silesian front, where he was wounded, after treatment in Karlovy Vary hospital in 1945 . in the summer in prison camps. During the period , 1945 - 1948 in he studied Geislingen Estonian Grammar School and was in the years 1948 in - 1951 in UNRRA office clerk. In 1951 she moved to the United States, where he studied from 1952 in - 1956 University of Maryland Civil Engineering, graduated from the University with a bachelor's degree and worked in the years 1956 - 1958, the same physics as an assistant. Continued in 1958, - 1962, studies at Johns Hopkins and years, in 1963 - in 1968 the University of Maryland Astronautics area. He has worked at NASA since 1962 as an astronaut engineer , was involved in the launch of more than 175 satellites , and has published numerous professional articles. He was socially active in several organizations in Baltimore . In 1993, - 1995, he was the Estonian Defense Forces Chief of Staff advisor to Tallinn. He began his literary career with the short story "Closed Circle", which won the first prize at the youth literature competition in Geislingen . He published verses in the refugee press and a collection of poems "Singers by the Glass Sea" (Stockholm, 1958). He also wrote lyrics and edited works for directing.
