Born May 18, 1941; Longreach, Queensland, Australia. Died April 21, 2007; Box Hill, Melbourne, Australia (due to lung cancer). Revered Australian guitarist. Loyde first came to prominence under the pseudonym/alias Barry Lyde in the Brisbane rhythm and blues band The Purple Hearts in 1965. In January 1967, he left to join the second incarnation of the Melbourne band The Wild Cherries, writing most on the band's four singles for the Festival label. The Coloured Balls played punk rock four years before punk emerged in the UK: heavily influenced by US bands, MC5 and Flamin' Groovies. The band released their debut album, "Ball Power" (1973). Prior to living in the UK, Loyde also released the album "" (instrumental) as well as writing a science-fiction novel (manuscript lost) and concept album "3400490" (2007). Back in Australia, Loyde also worked as a record producer with Machinations, Sunnyboys, The Red Crayons, Tablewaiters, Kevin Borich, X (5) and Painters And Dockers.
