American hymnwriter, songwriter (mostly lyricist), teacher and publisher. Born August 24, 1872, Belton, Texas, USA. Died: March 12, 1939, Little Rock, Arkansas, USA. Ramsey began teaching shape notes and singing while a teenager. He became well known in singing schools throughout the American South. His earliest copyrighted song was 1894 when he was CEO and co-owner with David Moore of the Central Music Co., Hartford Arkansas. In 1913, he bought out David Moore and moved the company from Hartford, to Little Rock, Arkansas, maintaining the business name. As a songwriter, best known for songs writing "He Whispers Sweet Peace to Me" and co-writing "Sweetest Mother" with Gertrude S. Ramsey (aka Gertrude Stoddard Dennstedt).
