A former employee of a record company, he is now a freelance writer, lecturer and reissue engineer in the audio field. He became familiar with SP records and phonographs at an early age, and began building vacuum tube amplifiers around 1948, when LP records were introduced, and in his third year of junior high school, at the request of his teacher, built a playback system for the music room (Koganei Junior High School attached to Tokyo Gakugei University). After graduating from Waseda University, he joined Nippon Columbia Co. He worked in the Western Music Department, releasing master recordings from overseas record companies in the domestic market. In 1972, he moved to Nippon Phonogram, which handled Philips in the Netherlands, where he was in charge of the Classics division and participated in the launch of the compact disc (CD) developed by Philips and Matsushita Denki in 1982. In 1987, he left Japan as Vice President of Marketing at Philips Records' headquarters in the Netherlands, and returned to Japan in 1990 to manage the Philips, Decca, and Deutsche Grammophon labels in Asia, including Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia, as well as Polygram Far East Inc. which oversees Philips, Decca, and Deutsche Grammophon labels in Asia, including Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia. In March 1996, he left PolyGram. Since then, he has worked as a freelancer, writing mainly for the quarterly magazines "管球王国 (=Kankyu Oukoku)" and "ラジオ技術 (=Radio Gijutsu)". In the fall of 2000, he began teaching "新忠篤オーディオ塾 (=AtarataTadaatsu Audio Juku)" as an instructor at a community college.
