French trombonist born in 1958. Yves Robert is an emblematic figure of French jazz. He has played with the creme of the national an international jazz scene : Daniel Humair, Loius Sclavis, Joëlle Leandre, McCoy Tyner, Paul Bley, John Zorn, Derek Bailey, Nguyên Lê, Steve Lacy and Dee Dee Bridgewater, just to name a few. He studied flute and trombone at the Music Conservatory in Vichy. In 1981, he joined the ARFI in Lyon, and the GRIM in Marseille in 1983, and organized musical meetings, concerts, festivals, educational workshops. He earned a growing reputation by playing in such well-known groups as Chris McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath, La Compagnie Lubat, and the first edition of the Orchestre National de Jazz in 1986. Soon he created his own projects as well, revealing the wide range of his musical ideas. He’s had several groups and projects since, with music in the widest range, from electronica through hip-hop flavoured jazz to contemporary improvisations.
