Hans Schemm

Bavarian Nazi-party official (born October 6, 1891 in Bayreuth, Bavaria – died March 5, 1935 in Bayreuth, Bavaria) Trained as a teacher, Schemm joined the Nazi party in 1922. He founded the local party organization in Bayreuth, rose to district leader, then Gauleiter of Upper Franconia. From 1929, he also headed the National Socialist Teachers League (NSLB), which he had co-founded. In September 1930, he was elected a member of the German national parliament (Reichstag). When the Nazis deposed Bavaria's elected government in March 1933, Schemm was appointed state commissar for Education and Culture. Schemm died in 1935 in a plane crash.
