Jun Yi Ma

Classical violinist born in Shanghai in 1972, current concertmaster of the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra. In 1989, he was appointed inaugural concertmaster of the Asian Youth Orchestra and, in 1992, concertmaster and soloist with the Australian Virtuoso Chamber Orchestra. He pursued further studies at the Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music with Professor Jan Sedivka and then at the Sydney Conservatorium with Charmian Gadd. He has also studied with Jascha Heifetz. He was principal first violin of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra from 1997 to 2002.
