Roch Chaloux

Born in 1903 near Saint-Chrysostome, Québec, Roch "Frenchie" Chaloux was a fiddler who played for local dances. As a young man, he emigrated to the North Country of adjacent New York State for work, where he farmed, mined, did carpentry, repaired aircraft, and did other jobs to make his way in and around the Adirondack region. Chaloux continued to fiddle when there was opportunity, and he even had a twice a week stint for a couple of years performing on WNBZ, Saranac Lake. It is reported that he claimed, while in his 80s, to play exactly 387 fiddle tunes.
