Johan Svensson (12)

Swedish composer who is active in both acoustic and electronic music, born 1983. With an equally large artistic and technical input in the composition work, he explores alternative ways of producing sound with electronic means. His current focus is on constructing sound-creating electromechanical devices and exploring different relationships between musicians and machines that can arise in a live situation. Several of his works have a conceptual starting point and are written for a combination of instrumentalists and electronic sound sources. In addition, visual elements, such as light and coordinated movements, are materials he often works with in his music. Svensson is the artistic director and one of the founders of the ensemble Mimitabu and the program manager for the Calf Festival. Johan has studied composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, at the Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo and at the University of Stage and Music in Gothenburg and at several masterclasses and courses such as Darmstädter Ferienkursen für neue Musik och Impuls academy, with teachers such as Klaus Lang, Pierluigi Billone, Beat Furrer, Asbjørn Schaathun and Ole Lützow-Holm.
