Drummer, tenor vocalist, songwriter, and composer After serving in the Army Air Force during World War II, Culbertson attended the University of Vienna, where he received a degree in theater and opera, and formed a jazz band. He returned to the US in 1948, and attended Pacific University in Oregon, where he received a degree in journalism. He became a writer and a composer and moved to Los Angeles. In the mid-1950s, he joined Bill and Marge Stafford to form The Staffords (2). Afterwards Culbertson gravitated to burlesque, and together with Charlie Vespia he formed a musical-comedy performance group called the Vespia Brothers.
