Mike Wilkinson

Former chairman of The American Association of Advertising Agencies in the 1970's before founding the parent label Sugarscoop and the sub-labels Disconet Program Service and Importe/12 Records. Often credited with creating the first meaningful DJ remix subscription service for radio stations, night club owners and DJ's, that featured some of the most influential "Night Club DJ's" and "Remix / Editors" of the period. He was the head of programming and also participated with writing and editing. Affectionately known as Captain Mike at Disconet he would pass away the same month as the 100th Program Anniversary Issue Volume 8 Program 9 (100th Program Anniversary Issue). The following month the June 1986 "Disconet Dj News Letter" would feature these words, "Michael was a pioneer in dance music who championed and nurtured the DJ's wish for artistic expression in remixing. He opened the boundaries of what we consider club music, always accepting new genres as worthy of a try on the turntable. We have not only lost a friend, but a person who made a real and lasting contribution to the art form of dance music." Born: 19 April 1945 Died: 10 May 1986
