John McIntire

Manager of The Grateful Dead 1970 - 74 & 1984 - 89 Born August 13, 1941, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and grew up in Bellville, across the river from St. Louis. Died February 16, 2012, in Stinson Beach, California of natural causes. He began working with the group in 1968 and became their manager in 1970 after Lenny Hart's departure. Took a Hiatus in 1974 - 84 to work with Bob Weir on his solo projects. Returned as manger in 1984 an left in 1988/89 after training Cameron Sears. After leaving The Dead he returned to St. Louis where he acted, and also worked as a counselor for women who were victims of domestic violence. In later years, he worked in the theater in Newport Beach, California and New York City before returning to Northern California in 2011.
