John Alexandra

British bassoonist. Born in 1891 - Died in 1957. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music. Former member of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the London Symphony Orchestra (1920-1932). He controversially defected to joining the London Philharmonic Orchestra in 1932 as 2nd Bassoon, eventually becoming Principal Bassoon for many years. His younger brother, the classical bassoonist George Alexandra, joined him in the LPO in 1935.
