Anthony Battalia owner and CEO of United Salon Associates who started out as a hairdresser at the age of 21. He recorded an album "Battalia Introduces Battalia" which was released in 1982. Prior to the album's release, he had attended a BBSI convention in San Diego. While there he got into a conversation with Robert Mugnai, the publisher of American Salon". Mugnai himself had been a professional musician. Battalia sang at a special Clairol convention for 300 distributors. The event was held in Puerto Rico. Battalia also sang at the 1981 International Beauty Show in New York. Among the people with him were Bob Mugnai on saxophone and Bob Oppenheim on drums. Oppenheim was the president of Clairol's salon division. In addition to playing at various clubs in Florida, Battalia played at the Playboy Club and appeared on the New York television show, "The Joe Franklin Show". His album was released on his own Cherry Blue label and featured a composition from his wife Louise Battaglia, and his cousin Tony Battaglia. He designed and patented the Mark II styling tool. This was a comb with teasing ridges at one end and fine stainless steel prongs at the other.
