Anton Walter (5 Feb 1752—11 Apr 1826) was a prominent German piano-builder who worked in Vienna since 1780. Considered one of the most iconic makers of "Vienna school," Walter's instruments continuously inspire prominent contemporary instrument-builders, such as Chris Maene, Paul McNulty, and Paul Poletti. Around 1782, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart purchased Walter's piano and used it extensively. Walter proliferated within his lifetime, gaining a prestigious "Imperial Royal Chamber Organ Builder & Instrument Maker" title in 1790 and employing over 20 workers. The last surviving Anton Walter's piano is dated 1825.
