The East-Berlin thrash metal band was founded in 1987 under the name of Gomorrah in the line-up of Dirk Porstmann (g), André Menzel (voc), Jörg Ebert (bg), Mario Arndt (g) and Marko Thäle (dr). In the same year the band had to change its name to Darkland on the advice of the classification committee. The band mainly played their own tracks, but also --cover versions of Celtic Frost. In 1988 Thäle went to the NVA. For him Wolf (dr) joined the band. After bass player Jörg Ebert joined the army the following year, Tilo Voigtländer (bg) joined the band. In 1990 Darkland sent out --DT64 demo recordings, which could also be placed in the station's heavy metal hit parade. The titles were produced in the Defa-Studios in Babelsberg. For Voigtländer Mario Ebert joined the band again in 1991, but this did not prevent Darkland from dissolving a few months later. Marko Thäle and Tilo Voigtländer changed that year to the newly founded Berlin band Postmortem, which was to develop into a leading death / thrash metal band in the 90s. Darkland is represented on the compilation [r9744997].
