The Cupons
Настоящее имя: The Cupons
Об исполнителе:
Female vocal group that recorded a single "Turn Her Down" bw "I'll Be Yours Tonight" for Tony Hilder's own Impact label. With a slighly haunting tune, "Turn Her Down" is a song about a girl's plea to her boyfriend to reject the advances of another female. Written by K.C. Reeth and Robert Hafner, the song had already been covered by Rochell & The Candles , Emmett Lord, and The Charades. With the latter two, their versions were re-titled "Turn Him Down". Released in 1964, and briefly rated in the Record Reviews section of the April 18 edition of Cash Box, the Cupons' record was given a C+, C rating. The B side of their lone single was credited to Materlyn & The Cupons. Their two recordings appear on the Rare LA Tracks issued on the Bacchus Archives label, Girls In The Garage Volume 6 and Girls In The Garage Pt. 2 compilations. It is believed that Materlyn (Madeline?), the credited artist on the B side of their single is the sister of Barbara Adkins who provided the giggles on the hit "Church Key" by The Revels. With their version of "turn Him Down", the group did make enough of an impression to inspire later acts such as The Pussywillows and Japanese garage rock trio MELLVINS to cover the song. To date nothing much else has been written about The Cupons.
