French classical musician and conductor, born 1934. Father of Marie Béreau. After his musical studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP), he became a professor at the CNSMDP and director of the Conservatoires of Metz, Rouen and Strasbourg. His career as a conductor led him to perform throughout Europe, but also in Asia (Taiwan, Philippines). In France, he was for many years at the head of the ensemble Le Concert des Mille. He collaborated with leading musicians such as Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, Aldo Ciccolini, Paul Badura-Skoda, Yuri Bashmet, Jean-Jacques Kantorow, Pascal Moraguès and Régine Crespin. He is also a composer, notably composed Jaïs for piano and flute orchestra (2003), Noir Asile for flute and piano (1969), Nervures for piano (1967), La Redousse for flute and piano (2011).
