John D.S. Adams is a recording engineer, producer, composer and performer currently residing in Nova Scotia, Canada. He is owner and chief producer/engineer of Stonehouse Sound, a small company dedicated to making excellent recordings on location or in the studio. John D.S. Adams has had the privilege of collaborating and performing with some of the great musical pioneers of our time, including John Cage, Walter Zimmerman, Takehisa Kosugi, Steve Lacy, Stuart Dempster, and Pauline Oliveros. From 1991 to 1996 Adams worked with the Merce Cunningham Dance Company and very closely with electronic music pioneer David Tudor. In 1998 Adams joined ranks with New York-based Composers Inside Electronics to perform Tudor’s Rainforest IV at the Lincoln Center Festival 98 and at the Getty Center’s 2001 Symposium on David Tudor. He is currently affiliated with performing ensembles suddenly LISTEN, F.F.O.B. and JERK. He was the chief engineer at Banff Centre For The Arts from 2007 to 2009. Adams is a sought after recording engineer, producer, and sound designer with production credits including Cunningham Dance Foundation’s award winning Beach Birds: For Camera, the last eight CDs for Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra as well as composition/sound design for Barishnykov’s White Oak Dance Project. Adam’s work was recently honoured with one 2007 and two 2006 Juno Awards. In addition to dozens of independent recordings, Adams has worked with/for Sony BMG, Universal, Analekta recording labels and artists Anton Kuerti, Eve Egoyan, Emilie Barlow, Yo-Yo Ma, and Neil Young.
