Aalon was an American soul/rock group from Los Angeles formed by lead singer and guitarist Aalon Butler Butler had played with Eric Burdon (of War and the Animals) in the mid-1970s before forming his own band, Aalon, in 1976. Joined by Juan Luis Cabaza on keyboards, Luther Rabb on bass and Ron Hammond on drums, the group signed with Arista Records, and in 1977 recorded their debut album ‘Cream City’ (produced by Jerry Goldstein). In addition to playing guitar and providing all of the lead vocals on ‘Cream City’, Butler also carried out the majority of the writing (with help from Goldstein on some songs). Highlighting Butler's appreciation of Sly & the Family Stone, Graham Central Station, Ike & Tina Turner, and the Isley Brothers, among others, ‘Cream City’ was a soul-funk gem with a prominent rock influence. Unfortunately, the 1977 release wasn't the major hit it deserved to be and Butler's group never recorded a second album, although he continued to perform around Los Angeles in the late '70s and '80s.
