Pashto music composer S.T. Sunny was born in Peshawar in a Christian family in 1950. He obtained a BA degree from the prestigious Edwards College, Peshawar. Later on he went to the United Kingdom to get certificate courses in Music. Unlike typical Edwardians who take pride in being fluent and well conversed in English, S.T. Sunny stands out as one who adored pashto music and elevated it to positions at par with quality music of Indian Sub-Continent. When pashto movie production started in the late 1960s, it provided Sunny the opportunity to showcase his talents. His first music composition project was pashto movie ZAMA BADAL. In this movie, he composed music for Khyal Muhammad, Kishwar Sultan and Hedayatullah. The songs were written by pashto poet Younas Qiyasi of Peshawar who is currently Editor of Daily "AAJ". While the movie did not do well at the box office, it made S.T.Sunny as one of the sought after composer because all the songs scored top on the list. Afterward, S.T. Sunny composed music for pashto movie "Baz aw Shahbaz", Makhrur, Tarbur, Da Ghaz aw da Maidan, Qesmat, Da Marg Saudagar, Jwand Ya Marg, and many others that continue to enchant Pukhtuns in Pukhtunkhwa and Afghanistan. The current song taken from pashto movie "Baz aw Shahbaz" speaks volumes of Sunny's capabilities and contributions to pashto music. Just like this song, he has hundreds of other pashto songs to his credit. His contributions to pashto music despite having born in a Hindko speaking household has immortalized Sunny in the minds and souls of Pukhtuns. As one of the original and talented pashto music composer, S.T. Sunny will have a distinguished place in pashto music history. Sunny is a pillar of pashto music and of the calibre no less than other iconic personalities including Munir Sarhadi, Sabz Ali Khan, SherAfghan, Rahadat Hussain, and Muhammad Rafeeq Shinwari.
