Harvey Ball & His Virginians

American dance band which was brought to Australia by band booker J.C. Bendrodt in 1927. This band was accompanied by another all-girl band, Ruth Varin & Her Maryland Maids (Harvey Ball was married to a member of the Varin group). The two bands were to appear alternately at dance halls in Sydney and Melbourne so that there could be non-stop dancing. They also played at various venues in other cities. Just before the end of their final engagement in May, 1928 the Harvey Ball band made one record in Melbourne for Vocalion.
