Paul Freeman – Pop Culture Classics Lena Bloch moved from Israel to Europe in 1991, where she became a part of the European jazz scene, finally came to the United States, earning Master’s Degree in Composition and moved to Brooklyn, NY in 2008. She has played and recorded with Steve Reid, Keith Copeland, John Marshall, Alvin Queen (Europe), Mala Waldron, Sumi Tonooka, Roberta Piket, Vishnu Wood, Connie Crothers, Cameron Brown, Billy Mintz, Russ Lossing, Marvin Smith (US) and many others, performed at various jazz festivals in Germany, Slovenia, Russia, United States. As a leader Lena released her American debut album "Feathery" in 2014 (Thirteenth Note Records). The album was top-rated in Downbeat Magazine, Pop Culture Classics, Jazz Inside Magazine, New York City Jazz Record, France Musique, Canadian Audiophile, Music Charts Magazine – and was voted the best debut release of 2014 by Dan Morgenstern, as well as one of the top 50 Jazz Albums 2014 (JazzLinks, Austria- Germany). In 2014 pianist and composer Russ Lossing joined Feathery and since then the quartet has been presenting original music, written by Lena and Russ. The quartet released its album “Heart Knows” in 2017 (Fresh Sound Records) and was selected to perform at the showcase for the 40th National Chamber Music Conference in NYC (2018). "Heart Knows" received stellar reviews in All About Jazz, NYC Jazz Record, Down Beat, Chamber Music Magazine and internationally: Canada, Greece, France, Switzerland, Italy, UK, Belgium, Germany, listed among top 50 (Jazz Links, Germany-Switzerland) and top 100 (NPR Jazz Critics Poll and Tenth Annual International Critics Poll) jazz releases 2018. Lena Bloch is an active jazz educator and clinician, member of Chamber Music America and National Endowment for the Arts panelist (2016).
