Nick Van Dijk

Instruments: Keys, trombone, trumpet, tuba, percussion, composer. Learning the trade at Wellington Polytechnic, gigging in Auckland, and further study at Netherlands Koninklijk Conservatory, and Banff, Canada, has led to some beautiful musical moments - from playing with international musicians such as Steve Lacy, Mike Nock, Kenny Wheeler, Joe LaBabara, Robin Eubanks, Rufus Reid, Chucho Valdes and Carl Allen, to the Vaughn Roberts Big Band, pop bands like the Black Seeds and Rhombus, as well as orchestral work, musicals and many recording sessions for radio and TV. The highlight of his career has been been watching the growth of New Zealand's music industry as embodied by many of his former and present students, colleagues and associates at the New Zealand School of Music. Nick is inspired to hear them.
